John Newland
John Newland was a multifaceted American talent known for his work as a director, actor, television producer, and screenwriter. He gained prominence in 1959 when he took on the role of host and director for the groundbreaking paranormal series *One Step Beyond*. This iconic show ran until 1961, captivating audiences with its intriguing tales of the supernatural. In 1978, he returned to the genre with *The Next Step Beyond*, although this follow-up series had a brief lifespan.
After *One Step Beyond*, Newland directed a notable episode of the spy series *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* in 1964, titled "The Double Affair." This episode was later expanded with additional footage and released in theaters as the film *The Spy with My Face*. In 1966, he showcased his versatility by producing and directing nearly all episodes of the serious spy series *The Man Who Never Was*, where he also contributed as a writer. Some of these episodes were compiled and released internationally as the film *Danger Has Two Faces*.
