Nabil Djedouani
Nabil Djedouani, a French-Algerian filmmaker, actor, and researcher, was born in Saint-Etienne in 1984. He pursued his passion for cinema by earning a Master II in cinema studies from the prestigious Louis Lumière University in Lyon. In 2010, he collaborated with Hassen Ferhani to co-direct the documentary Afric Hôtel, marking the beginning of his cinematic journey.
Djedouani further honed his craft by working alongside renowned filmmaker Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche, serving as both assistant director and actor in the films Histoire de Judas (2015) and Terminal Sud (2019). In 2012, he took a significant step in preserving Algerian cinema by establishing the Algerian Cinema Digital Archives, where he collects, restores, and shares overlooked Algerian films through his Facebook page and YouTube channel. His dedication to cultural heritage extended to Algerian music with the creation of the Raï & Folk platform, where he engaged in research and dissemination efforts.
In 2019, he produced the thought-provoking documentary essay Rock Against Police, showcasing his commitment to addressing social issues through film. His expertise in digital restoration was recognized in 2022 when he earned a professional qualification certificate from the National Audiovisual Institute, further solidifying his role as a key figure in the preservation and promotion of Algerian culture.
