James McDougall
James McDougall is a talented Canadian actor and filmmaker, hailing from the quaint town of Cobourg, Ontario. Born to Gail, a prison manager, and John, an English teacher, James's passion for acting and filmmaking blossomed during his childhood. He participated in local theater productions and crafted home movies with his friends, which laid the groundwork for his artistic journey.
He pursued his love for drama at Canterbury Arts High School and spent a year studying theater at York University. Following this, James returned to Ottawa, where he performed in various musicals and dramatic productions with organizations such as ASNY, Orleans Young Players, and GOYA. His career took him to Victoria, B.C., where he acted with renowned companies like Atomic Vaudeville and Theatre Inconnu.
After several years in British Columbia, James returned to Ontario to dive into Toronto's vibrant film and television scene. He dedicated himself to on-camera acting and filmmaking, honing his skills while working at Armstrong Acting Studios, where he gained invaluable industry insights. Notable roles include a lead in Vincenzo Natali's segment of the horror anthology ABCs of Death 2 (2014), portraying Santa Claus in HBO Max's 8-Bit Christmas (2021), and playing Hammond in the thriller Becky (2020) alongside Kevin James.
In addition to acting, James has over a decade of experience in writing, directing, and producing at Mountain Man Media. His short film Walking Supply (2016) premiered at The Toronto International Short Film Festival and evolved into the feature film Whiteout (2023), in which he starred as Henry. The film, shot in harsh winter conditions, was sold at the Cannes Film Market and secured distribution with Saban Films and Myriad Pictures. In 2021, he founded Galebreak Studios, dedicated to creating compelling narrative stories across various genres.
