Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, born Pål Gamst on September 6, 1961, in Tonsenhagen, Norway, is a distinguished musician and songwriter, renowned primarily for his role as the lead guitarist and principal songwriter of the iconic synth-pop band a-ha. This group has achieved remarkable success, with over 50 million albums sold globally. Waaktaar-Savoy has penned or co-penned many of a-ha's most celebrated tracks, including the timeless hits "Take On Me," "The Sun Always Shines on T.V.," "Hunting High and Low," and the James Bond theme "The Living Daylights." His lyrical prowess is further showcased in the poignant ballad "Summer Moved On."

Raised in Oslo and influenced by classical music, Waaktaar-Savoy began his musical journey by mastering the flute before delving into composition, showcasing his prodigious talent from a young age. His formative years were spent in the band Bridges, where he collaborated with future a-ha members Magne Furuholmen and Morten Harket. The band released their debut album, "Fakkeltog," in 1980, which laid the groundwork for their future successes.
