Govinda, born Govind Arun Ahuja on December 21, 1963, is a celebrated Indian actor and politician, recognized for his contributions to Hindi cinema. With a filmography that exceeds 120 movies, he initially garnered significant acclaim for his impressive acting and dancing abilities, which quickly captured the attention of audiences. Over time, Govinda solidified his status as a Bollywood legend, particularly through his memorable performances in comedic hits like Shola Aur Shabnam, Aankhen, Coolie No. 1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, and Partner.

In addition to his film career, Govinda entered the political arena as a member of the Indian National Congress Party. He was elected as the seventh Member of Parliament representing Mumbai North in the 14th Lok Sabha elections in 2004, where he triumphed over Ram Naik from the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, in the 2009 General Elections, he chose to step back from politics to focus more on his acting career, although he maintains connections with the Congress Party. His parliamentary seat was subsequently filled by Sanjay Nirupam, also from Congress.

Notably, in June 1999, BBC News Online users recognized Govinda as the tenth greatest star of stage or screen of the last millennium, highlighting his enduring impact on the entertainment industry.
