Amber Sealey
Amber Sealey is a distinguished filmmaker and actress, originally hailing from England and later raised in New Mexico. Her latest project, NO LIGHT AND NO LAND ANYWHERE, premiered at the LA Film Festival, where it garnered a Special Jury Award. IndieWire lauded the film, suggesting it could solidify Sealey's status as a leading director of female-centric narratives in the United States.
This film, which received executive production from Miranda July, also earned the Indie Vision Breakthrough Feature Film Award at the Twin Cities Film Festival and is set for a theatrical release in 2017.
Sealey's previous work, HOW TO CHEAT, showcased her talents as a writer, director, and actress, earning her the Best Performance Award at the LA Film Festival, as well as accolades for Best Narrative Film and Best Acting at BendFilm. Critics praised it as “hilarious” and a poignant depiction of contemporary marriage. The film was distributed by FilmBuff.
Her directorial debut, A PLUS D, premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival, where it received acclaim for its innovative blending of fact and fiction, drawing comparisons to the works of directors like Cassavetes and Winterbottom.
Amber's credentials include participation in Film Independent’s Directing Lab and the Fast Track program for her feature script, NEW MEXICAN RAIN. She has collaborated with notable filmmakers such as Mike Mills and Miranda July, and shadowed industry luminaries like Jamie Babbit and Jill Soloway.
An alumna of The University of California, Santa Cruz, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and The Central School of Speech and Drama, Sealey has extensive experience in physical theater, film, and television. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two children, while also teaching a weekly acting class.
