Amr Waked
Amr Waked, born on April 12, 1973, in Cairo, Egypt, pursued a dual education in economics and theatre at the American University in Cairo. His acting journey began in earnest when he joined the Temple Theatre Troop in 1994, followed by the Yaaru Theatre Troop in 1999, where he honed his craft as a stage performer. Waked made his film debut in 1998 with a role in Ossama Fawzy's "Gannet El Shayateen," which showcased his talent and garnered critical acclaim, marking the beginning of his rise in the acting world.
In 2003, he made a significant leap into international cinema with a role in Stephen Gaghan's "Syriana." This performance opened doors to various global projects, including "House of Saddam" and "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen." Beyond acting, Amr co-founded "zad communication & production llc" in 2005, embarking on a production career focused on addressing developmental and social issues in Egypt and the Middle East.
In 2012, zad produced its inaugural feature film, "Winter of Discontent," directed by Ibrahim El Batout, which premiered at the prestigious 69th Venice Film Festival. Waked continues to be recognized for his versatility and depth as an actor, leaving an indelible mark on both Egyptian and international cinema.
