Christopher Lowe

Dr. Christopher Lowe stands out as one of the leading authorities on sharks globally. He holds a position as a professor of marine biology and serves as the Head of SharkLab at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). At SharkLab, he directs research focused on the behavior, movement, and physiology of sharks, rays, and various game fish, mentoring students in this vital field.

Dr. Lowe's expertise has made him a prominent figure in popular media, particularly during Discovery's Shark Week, where he frequently lends his insights. He has been featured in numerous articles and has appeared on various television and radio platforms, including the PBS/BBC documentary Big Blue Live, the Today Show, and CBC News. His contributions to public understanding of marine life also include a TED Talk and features in notable publications like Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times.

He received his Bachelor of Arts in marine biology from Barrington College in Rhode Island and later earned a Master of Science in biology from CSULB. In 1998, he completed his Ph.D. in zoology at the University of Hawaii, where he researched the bioenergetics of juvenile hammerhead sharks. He subsequently returned to CSULB to share his knowledge and passion for marine biology, continuing to make significant contributions to the field.
