Yitzhak Rabin (Hebrew: יִצְחָק רַבִּין; 1 March 1922 – 4 November 1995) was a prominent Israeli statesman and military leader who served as Prime Minister of Israel during two significant periods: from 1974 to 1977 and again from 1992 until his assassination in 1995. Notably, he was the first Prime Minister born in Mandatory Palestine.

Born in Jerusalem to Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, Rabin was raised in a Labor Zionist family. He pursued agricultural studies and joined the Palmach, the elite commando unit of the Yishuv, during his teenage years. He demonstrated exceptional military prowess during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, later joining the newly established Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Over a distinguished 27-year military career, he attained the rank of Rav Aluf (lieutenant general), shaping IDF training doctrines and leading the Operations Directorate from 1959 to 1963. His tenure as Chief of Staff began in 1964, culminating in Israel's success in the 1967 Six-Day War.

Appointed as Israel's ambassador to the United States from 1968 to 1973, Rabin played a crucial role in strengthening U.S.–Israel relations. After an initial term as Prime Minister marked by significant agreements, he returned to power in 1992. During this period, he advanced the Israeli–Palestinian peace process, signing pivotal agreements under the Oslo Accords and earning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 alongside Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat. Tragically, Rabin's life was cut short when he was assassinated by Yigal Amir, a radical opposed to his peace efforts, making Rabin a lasting symbol of hope for peace in the region.
