Victor Borge, originally named Børge Rosenbaum, was a celebrated Danish-American performer renowned for his unique fusion of comedy and classical music. Born in Copenhagen, Borge began his journey as a concert pianist, showcasing his talent in a major performance in 1926. By 1933, he had developed a distinctive stand-up act that cleverly intertwined piano melodies with humor, the same year he married American Elsie Chilton.

Borge gained prominence throughout Europe, where he humorously addressed political issues, including anti-Nazi jokes during a tumultuous time. Following the German invasion of Denmark on April 9, 1940, he was in Sweden and made the decision to flee to the United States with his wife. Upon arriving in America, he adopted the stage name Victor Borge and quickly adapted his comedic style to resonate with his new audience, learning English through films.

His big break came in 1941 when Bing Crosby invited him to perform on Kraft Music Hall, marking the start of a remarkable rise in his career.
