Thanasis Papageorgiou
Thanasis Papageorgiou is a prominent Greek director and actor, whose remarkable career spans over five decades in the theater world. Born on February 16, 1938, in Kaisariani, he embarked on his artistic journey by studying at the Drama School of Christos Vachliotis. His theatrical debut occurred in 1962 with K. Livadeas's troupe. Between 1962 and 1965, he collaborated with several renowned troupes, including those led by V. Diamantopoulou and Titou Vandis, before turning to cinema. In 1968, he made his mark as a director, screenwriter, and actor with the film "Epi eschatis prodossia."
Papageorgiou's contributions to television include directing plays for the Monday Theater, as well as co-directing and acting in the beloved series "Madame Soussou." His television credits also feature roles in popular series such as "The Lottery," "Mikres adgieli," and "13th box." Additionally, he directed adaptations of various plays and created standalone children's films.
In cinema, he garnered critical acclaim for his role in Elina Psykou's "Son of Sophia" (2015), which earned him the Best Actor award from the Hellenic Cinema Academy. He also appeared in Zacharias Mavroides' "The Retired" (2018) and made guest appearances in notable works by directors like Tsberopoulos and Perakis.
