Giuseppe Caruso, more widely recognized as Pino Caruso, was a prominent Italian actor, author, and television figure, born on October 12, 1934, in Palermo, Sicily. His theatrical journey began in 1957 when he made his debut as a dramatic actor in his hometown. In 1965, he relocated to Rome, where he joined the esteemed theatre company "Il Bagaglino." Caruso gained significant fame through his participation in a variety of RAI television programs, including "Che domenica amici" (1968), "Gli amici della domenica" (1970), "Teatro 10" (1971), "Dove sta Zazà" (1973), "Mazzabubù" (1975), and "Due come noi" (1979).

He served as the president of the Italian Actors Union from 1979 to 1989, advocating for the rights of fellow performers. In 1995, he was appointed by Palermo Mayor Leoluca Orlando to design and direct the Palermo in scena festival, a cultural event that ran from July 14 to September 14, which he successfully repeated in 2001.

Caruso was also a prolific writer, contributing columns to various newspapers and magazines such as Il Mattino, Il Messaggero, and La Sicilia, and authoring numerous books across different genres. He appeared in around 30 films and made his directorial debut with “Ride bene chi ride ultimo” in 1977. He was married to stage actress Marilisa Ferzetti and was the father of voice actor Francesco Caruso. A dedicated vegetarian, Pino Caruso passed away on March 7, 2019.
