Brian Steidle

Brian Steidle is a distinguished former Marine Captain, military and security operations expert, and author known for his significant contributions to raising awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Sudan. His firsthand experiences in the region inspired his notable book, *The Devil Came on Horseback*, which chronicles the atrocities he witnessed. This work was later adapted into a documentary that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007, further amplifying the urgent message about the conflict.

Throughout his career, Steidle has actively engaged with global leaders, sharing his insights on the situation in Darfur with heads of state in both the United States and internationally. He has addressed the U.S. Congress and the United Nations, advocating for increased attention and action toward humanitarian issues in Africa and beyond. Additionally, he works as a lecturer and advisor for numerous non-governmental organizations, contributing his expertise to enhance their humanitarian initiatives.

Before dedicating himself to humanitarian efforts, Steidle served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003 as an infantry officer, achieving the rank of Captain. Growing up as the son of a senior U.S. Navy officer, Steidle’s military background has shaped his commitment to service and advocacy in some of the world's most challenging environments.
