Maj Toure

1 title Acting

Maj Toure, born Martin Anthony Jones, is a prominent American libertarian activist and hip-hop artist known for his advocacy work and musical contributions. Hailing from North Philadelphia, Toure established the nonprofit organization Black Guns Matter in 2016. The initiative focuses on educating urban communities, particularly within the African-American demographic, about their rights to bear arms and promotes responsible gun ownership.

Toure's musical career includes the release of three albums: *Solutionary Vol. 1* (2005), *Solutionary Vol. 2* (2014), and *Solutionary Vol. 3* (2016), showcasing his talents in the rap and hip-hop genres.

In 2019, he made a bid for an at-large seat on the Philadelphia City Council as a Libertarian candidate. His campaign emphasized critical issues such as Second Amendment rights, criminal justice reform, the abolition of solitary confinement, legalization of cannabis, and enhanced education initiatives in Philadelphia. Despite his efforts, Toure finished 15th among 17 candidates, garnering 5,676 votes, which accounted for about 0.5% of the total.

Toure has also made his mark as a speaker, presenting at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February 2019. In a 2021 discussion with Lawrence B. Jones, he expressed support for grassroots anti-racist movements while criticizing Black Lives Matter, Inc. for alleged financial misconduct, asserting it detracts from the original message of racial equality.
