Maynard James Keenan
Maynard James Keenan, born James Herbert Keenan on April 17, 1964, is a multifaceted American artist renowned for his work as a rock singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer, in addition to being a winemaker and actor. Hailing from Ohio, Keenan spent his formative years in Michigan, where he completed high school and college. Following his service in the Army during the early 1980s, he attended Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. In 1988, he relocated to Los Angeles to explore a career in interior design and set construction, and it was there that he co-founded the influential band Tool with Adam Jones.
Keenan has gained acclaim as the lead vocalist for the acclaimed rock bands Tool and A Perfect Circle, with the former releasing four studio albums and the latter three. In 2003, he launched Puscifer as a creative side project, debuting its first studio album in October 2007. Despite his celebrity status, Keenan has maintained a private lifestyle, often retreating from the public eye except to support various charitable endeavors.
Beyond music, he has dabbled in improvisational stand-up comedy and acting. Keenan is also the proprietor of Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars in Arizona, and he co-owns Stronghold Vineyards. His entrepreneurial spirit extends to the Los Angeles restaurant Cobras & Matadors and a produce market alongside an organic market in Cornville, Arizona, featuring a tasting room for his wines.
