Sabu Cyril
Sabu Cyril is a renowned Indian film art director, celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the cinematic landscape. He has been honored with the National Film Award for Best Art Direction on four occasions and has clinched the Filmfare Award for Best Art Direction five times, including accolades from the southern film industry. His groundbreaking work on the film "Enthiran" catapulted him to international acclaim, solidifying his status as one of the leading art directors in India.
Born in Kerala, Sabu Cyril completed his early education in his home state before earning a degree from the Government College of Fine Arts in Chennai, which was formerly known as the Government School of Arts and Crafts.
His professional journey began as a freelance graphic designer between 1982 and 1988, collaborating with prestigious organizations such as Welcomgroup Hotels, the Taj Group, and Madura Coats. In 1988, he transitioned into art direction, amassing an impressive portfolio that includes over 480 advertisements, three television serials, and 50 feature films across various languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
Noteworthy among his achievements is the stage design for the Miss World pageant in 1996, showcasing his versatility beyond film. Additionally, he contributed as a second unit director for the 1990 film "Iyer the Great," further demonstrating his multifaceted talent in the industry.
