Richard Lowry

1 title Directing Aug 24, 1964 Moline, Illinois, USA

Richard Lowry's journey into filmmaking began in his early teenage years when he started creating super 8 films. A pivotal moment came when he watched 'Star Wars,' which ignited his passion for serious filmmaking. His debut feature, 'Hawk Jones,' showcased an entirely child cast and was shot in his hometown of Moline, Illinois. Over time, this unique film garnered a devoted cult following and, as of August 2014, found its way back to the big screen, being screened across the country through the Alamo Drafthouse film circuit.

Throughout his career, Lowry has directed a variety of independent films that have reached audiences globally, including two notable projects produced in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics. His work 'Monarch of the Moon,' a clever satire of 1940s serials, received acclaim from film critic Leonard Maltin, who remarked that it was "...the film 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' aspired to be."

Currently, Lowry has wrapped up his latest project, 'Dominion,' and is actively engaged in pre-production for another film while developing several new ideas, including an ambitious 'ultimate Star Wars short fan film.' His dedication to the craft continues to inspire both fans and aspiring filmmakers alike.
