Syd Heylen

Syd Heylen (25 May 1922 - 4 December 1996) stands out as a versatile Australian character actor, whose career spanned radio, stage, television, film, and comedy. He was renowned for his performances that often echoed the traditional vaudeville style reminiscent of Roy Rene.

Heylen gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Vernon 'Cookie' Locke in the beloved television series A Country Practice. As the charming RSL club manager, barman, and chef, he captivated audiences from 1982 until his departure from the show in 1992. After stepping away from the limelight, Heylen and his wife, Patti, enjoyed a peaceful retirement at their home on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
