Julio Gerardo "Gérard" Hernandez, born on January 20, 1933, in Valladolid, Spain, is a distinguished actor who became a French citizen in 1975. He is best known for his signature mustache and extensive work as a voice actor, lending his talents to various beloved characters. Notably, he voiced Gonzo in the French version of The Muppet Show, Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Hound, and both Papa Smurf and Grouchy Smurf in the iconic 1981 series The Smurfs and its subsequent film.

Though primarily seen in supporting roles on the silver screen, Hernandez made a significant impact with his performance alongside Jean-Pierre Marielle and Philippe Noiret in the acclaimed film Coup de Torchon (1981), directed by Bertrand Tavernier. His television career flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, where he frequently appeared on popular game shows such as Les Jeux de 20 heures on FR3 and L'Académie des neuf on Antenne 2. He also hosted the game show Les Affaires sont les Affaires on Canal+ during the mid-1980s.

In addition to his voice work in the French dubbed version of the James Bond film Licence to Kill (1989), Hernandez enjoyed a notable role as Commissaire Perret in the series Père et Maire from 2002 to 2009.
