Billy Harris
Billy Harris, born on April 12, 1994, is a talented English actor best known for his role as Colin Hughes in the hit Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso. A graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where he honed his craft from 2014 to 2017, Harris quickly made a name for himself in theater, taking on various stage roles that showcased his versatility. He has often cited Marlon Brando as a key influence on his acting style, particularly noting how emulating Brando's iconic speech from Julius Caesar during a challenging audition helped him discover his own unique voice. He also admires Anthony Hopkins for his meticulous approach to character preparation.
Harris began his career in commercials, notably featuring in a Nike advertisement alongside basketball star Kevin Durant, before moving on to small roles in short films and web series. His breakthrough came when he portrayed Callum McGregor in the stage adaptation of Malorie Blackman's Noughts & Crosses series, marking his first lead role.
In Ted Lasso, Harris initially appeared in the first two seasons as a recurring character before being promoted to a series regular in the third season. His portrayal of Hughes, particularly after the character's coming out, received acclaim from audiences and critics alike, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. Brendan Hunt, co-creator of the show, praised Harris for his outstanding performance, which touches on significant themes of male vulnerability and sexuality in football.
Harris also made a brief appearance in the BBC One series The Outlaws in 2022 and is set to lend his voice to an upcoming animated series by collaborator Elliot Blake. Originally from Southend, Essex, he is an avid supporter of Manchester United F.C. and has a sister.
