Tina Turner
Tina Turner (November 26, 1939 - May 24, 2023) was an iconic American singer and actress whose illustrious career spanned over five decades. Renowned for her electrifying stage performances and formidable vocal prowess, Turner earned the title “The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” and was celebrated as one of the greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone. With an astonishing estimated sales record of 180 million albums and singles globally, she holds the distinction of selling more concert tickets than any other solo artist in history.
Turner initially rose to fame alongside her then-husband Ike Turner as part of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, delivering classic hits like "River Deep, Mountain High" and the 1971 smash "Proud Mary." Her 1986 autobiography, *I, Tina*, candidly detailed her experiences of domestic abuse during her marriage, a revelation that garnered significant attention and empathy from fans.
After a hiatus from the music scene post-divorce, Turner made a remarkable comeback, igniting her career with the 1983 single "Let's Stay Together" and the 1984 album *Private Dancer*, which solidified her status as a solo superstar. In addition to her musical achievements, she ventured into film, portraying The Acid Queen in the 1975 rock opera *Tommy* and starring as Aunty Entity in *Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome*, for which she won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress. Her hit single "We Don't Need Another Hero" from the film further showcased her versatility as an artist.
