Hammed Animashaun

Hammed Animashaun, born on May 6, 1991, is a prominent British actor celebrated for his work in stage, film, and television. Hailing from a Nigerian family in Whitechapel, London, he grew up with roots deeply embedded in his community, with a father who was a bus driver and a mother who dedicated her time to voluntary work. A significant growth spurt in his teenage years, where he shot up five inches in a summer, contributed to his striking height of 6 ft 3”. Encouraged by a drama teacher, he began his theatrical journey at the Half Moon Children's Theatre in Limehouse, eventually pursuing philosophy and drama at university—a path he left to seize acting opportunities.

Animashaun gained recognition for his portrayal of Bottom in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" at the Bridge Theatre, earning him second place at the 2021 Ian Charleson Awards and the Best Supporting Actor accolade at the WhatsOnStage Awards. His diverse stage credits include roles in “Master Harold”...and the Boys, Cinderella at the Lyric Hammersmith, and the original production of the Barber Shop Chronicles.

On screen, he made a notable appearance as Loial in the Amazon Prime series "The Wheel of Time" in 2021. In 2023, he starred in the BBC One comedy "Black Ops" as Kay, a gentle giant navigating the challenges of undercover work, a role he described as a "dream come true."
