Marie Laforêt
Marie Laforêt, born on October 5, 1939, in France, was a renowned singer and actress whose career spanned several decades. In 1978, she relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, where she later obtained Swiss citizenship.
Laforêt's entry into the entertainment industry was serendipitous; in 1959, she stepped in for her sister at a French radio talent contest titled Naissance d'une étoile and emerged victorious. This unexpected triumph caught the attention of director Louis Malle, who offered her a role in his film project, Liberté, which was ultimately shelved. However, her film debut came shortly thereafter in René Clément's 1960 drama, Plein Soleil, where she starred alongside the iconic Alain Delon.
The 1960s marked a significant period in Laforêt's career as she gained popularity through a variety of film roles. Her personal life intertwined with her professional one when she married director Jean-Gabriel Albicocco, who featured her in several of his films, including La Fille aux Yeux d'Or (The Girl with the Golden Eyes). This particular role became emblematic of her career and earned her the affectionate nickname associated with it.
Marie Laforêt's artistic contributions and her unique style have left a lasting impact on French cinema and music, reflecting her multifaceted talent until her passing on November 2, 2019.
