André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu, born on October 1, 1949, in Maastricht, Netherlands, is an acclaimed violinist and conductor renowned for founding the Johann Strauss Orchestra. Rieu’s innovative approach to classical and waltz music has transformed these genres into a celebrated global concert experience.

Raised in a Roman Catholic family of six, André was inspired by his father, who conducted the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. He began his violin studies at the tender age of five, demonstrating a remarkable talent that led him to the Conservatoire Royal in Liège and later the Conservatorium Maastricht, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of esteemed musicians. His education culminated at the Music Academy in Brussels, where he earned the "Premier Prix."

In 1975, Rieu married Marjorie Kochmann, a passionate language teacher and composer, with whom he has two sons. Fluent in six languages, Rieu’s cultural versatility complements his musical prowess.

The Johann Strauss Orchestra, established by Rieu in 1987, began with just 12 musicians and has since expanded to include 50 to 60 performers. Notably, in 2008, Rieu's tour featured a life-size replica of Empress Sisi's Castle, marking a significant milestone in touring productions. His performances have captivated audiences across Europe, the Americas, Japan, and Australia.

In addition to his concert successes, Rieu composed music for the 2014 film *Tuscan Wedding* and gained further recognition when Sky Arts 2 dedicated two weeks of programming exclusively to his concerts in 2013, showcasing his enduring impact on the music world.
