Michael Fassbender, born on April 2, 1977, is a prominent German-Irish actor known for his remarkable versatility and depth in performance. Over his career, he has garnered numerous accolades, including two Academy Award nominations, four BAFTA nominations, and three Golden Globe nominations. In 2020, he was celebrated as one of Ireland's top film actors, ranking ninth on The Irish Times' prestigious list.

Fassbender was born in Germany to a Northern Irish mother and a German father, and he relocated to Ireland when he was just two years old. His acting career began in earnest with his feature film debut in the 2006 epic, 300. He gained early recognition through roles in the acclaimed HBO miniseries Band of Brothers (2001) and the fantasy drama Hex (2004-2005). His breakthrough came with his compelling portrayal of Bobby Sands in Hunger (2008), which earned him a British Independent Film Award.

He solidified his status in Hollywood with significant roles in films such as Fish Tank (2009), Inglourious Basterds (2009), and the X-Men franchise, portraying the character Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto across several installments. Fassbender's powerful performance as a sex addict in Shame (2011) won him the Volpi Cup for Best Actor, alongside nominations for major awards. His other notable works include 12 Years a Slave (2013), where he was nominated for an Academy Award, and Steve Jobs (2015), for which he received another Academy Award nomination. After a brief break, he returned to the screen in the action thriller The Killer (2023).

In addition to his acting pursuits, Fassbender has a passion for auto racing, having started competing in 2017 with the Ferrari Challenge, and currently races in the European Le Mans Series. He married Swedish actress Alicia Vikander in 2017.
