Frédéric Chau, born on June 6, 1977, in Saigon, Vietnam, is a French comedian and actor of Chinese descent. His rise to fame began with his involvement in the Jamel Comedy Club, where he showcased his unique comedic style. Chau’s journey began when his pregnant mother fled Cambodia in 1977 to escape the Khmer Rouge, eventually relocating to France when he was just six months old. The family settled in Marx-Dormoy, a neighborhood in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, before moving to the suburbs.

As the eldest of three siblings, Chau experienced a disciplined upbringing that emphasized education. He earned his scientific baccalaureate at 18 and pursued a degree in telecommunications. His modeling career took off briefly when he was discovered by a fashion photographer, and in 1998, he joined Air France as a steward while nurturing his passion for comedy.

His comedic career flourished in 2005 during performances at venues like the Théâtre de Ménilmontant and Théâtre de Dix Heures. By 2006, he became the only Asian member of the Jamel Comedy Club, humorously acknowledging the stereotypes associated with Asian comedians. In 2009, he lent his voice to Delgado in the French dub of Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Chau gained widespread recognition in 2014 for his role in the hit film "Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu ?", which attracted approximately 17.5 million viewers, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in French cinema.
