Donald Sumpter, born on February 13, 1943, is a seasoned English actor whose career spans several decades in both film and television, beginning in the mid-1960s. He made his television debut in the iconic 1968 "Doctor Who" serial "The Wheel in Space," featuring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor, and later returned to the series in the 1972 installment "The Sea Devils," alongside Jon Pertwee. Sumpter also made appearances in the "Doctor Who" spin-off, "The Sarah Jane Adventures."

In film, one of his notable early roles was as the infamous British criminal Donald Neilson in the 1977 movie "The Black Panther." Throughout the years, Sumpter has starred in numerous television films and series, including adaptations of Charles Dickens' works, such as "Nicholas Nickleby" (2001), "Great Expectations" (1999), and "Bleak House" (1985). He gained recognition for portraying the villain Ronnie Day in the 1985 series "Big Deal." His impressive range includes playing the suspected serial killer Alexander Bonaparte Cust in the 1992 episode of "Agatha Christie's Poirot," "The ABC Murders," and roles in "Midsomer Murders," "The Bill," and "Holby City."

Sumpter’s versatility was further showcased in his recurring role as Uncle Ginger in "The Queen's Nose," as Harold Chapple in "Our Friends in the North," and as physicist Max Planck in "Einstein and Eddington." He also appeared as Kemp in the supernatural drama "Being Human" and took on the role of Maester Luwin in HBO's critically acclaimed series "Game of Thrones."
