Stockard Channing
Stockard Channing, born Susan Antonia Williams Stockard on February 13, 1944, is a distinguished American actress celebrated for her impactful work across film, television, and theater. Over her illustrious career, she has garnered numerous accolades, including three Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and an Academy Award nomination.
Channing is perhaps best known for her iconic portrayal of Betty Rizzo in the beloved film Grease (1978) and for her role as First Lady Abbey Bartlet in the acclaimed NBC series The West Wing, which aired from 1999 to 2006. She also made a significant mark in the theater world by originating the role of Ouisa Kittredge in both the stage and film adaptations of Six Degrees of Separation, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the 1993 film.
Her stage accomplishments include winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play in 1985 for her role in the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. Additionally, Channing received Emmy Awards for her performances in The West Wing and The Matthew Shepard Story, both in 2002, and a Daytime Emmy Award in 2005 for her role in Jack.
