Mike Werb

1 title Writing Jun 21, 1977 Los Angeles, California

Here is a fresh, original biography of Mike Werb, written in approximately 240 words.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mike Werb is an American screenwriter best known for his high-concept action and fantasy films. After earning his undergraduate degree at Stanford, he honed his craft at the UCLA Film School, where he began a long-running creative partnership with writer Michael Colleary.

Werb first broke into Hollywood with a bang, co-writing the 1994 blockbuster *The Mask*, starring Jim Carrey. However, his most celebrated achievement came in 1997 with the explosive sci-fi thriller *Face/Off*. For that film, Werb and Colleary won the Saturn Award for Best Writing, cementing their reputation as architects of inventive, adrenaline-fueled stories. He also contributed the story for the 2001 video game adaptation *Lara Croft: Tomb Raider*.

Beyond his produced hits, Werb and Colleary developed several notable but ultimately unproduced projects, including a script titled *King’s Ransom* for director John Woo and a take on the *Stretch Armstrong* property. Expanding his reach into television, Werb created the Cartoon Network series *Unnatural History*, which blended adventure with historical mysteries. Through a career defined by bold, genre-spanning ideas, Mike Werb remains a distinctive voice in American screenwriting.
