Chen Shiang-Chyi
Chen Shiang-Chyi (Chinese: 陳湘琪; pinyin: chén xiāng qí), born on November 27, 1969, in Taiwan, is a distinguished actress celebrated for her enduring partnership with the renowned filmmaker Tsai Ming-liang.
Her journey in the performing arts began at the Taipei National University of the Arts, where her talent caught the attention of acclaimed director Edward Yang. Following her notable role in Yang's film *A Confucian Confusion*, Chen pursued further education in the United States, earning a master’s degree in Educational Theatre from New York University.
Upon returning to Taiwan, Chen became a key figure in Tsai Ming-liang's cinematic works, contributing to films that have garnered international acclaim. She also featured in Lin Cheng-sheng's *Sweet Degeneration* (1997), which was showcased at the prestigious 48th Berlin International Film Festival. In recognition of her remarkable talent, Chen received the Best Actress award at the Golden Horse Film Festival in 2014 for her role in *Exit*.
In addition to her accomplishments in film, Chen is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of artists as an assistant professor of theatre at her alma mater, the Taipei National University of the Arts. Through her diverse achievements in acting and education, she continues to leave a significant mark on the Taiwanese arts scene.
