Michael Andrew Fox OC, born on June 9, 1961, is a distinguished Canadian-American actor who has left an indelible mark on both film and television. His career took off in the late 1970s, but it was his portrayal of the ambitious teenager Alex P. Keaton on the NBC sitcom Family Ties (1982–1989) that propelled him to fame. Fox is perhaps best known for his iconic role as Marty McFly in the beloved Back to the Future trilogy, released between 1985 and 1990, which became both a critical and commercial sensation.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Fox starred in a variety of films that showcased his versatility, including Teen Wolf (1985), The Secret of My Success (1987), and Casualties of War (1989). He later returned to television, leading the ABC sitcom Spin City from 1996 to 2000, where he continued to shine despite his health challenges.
In 1998, Fox revealed his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, a condition he was first diagnosed with in 1991. This prompted him to become a passionate advocate for research, founding the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000. In addition to his advocacy, he made memorable guest appearances on shows like Rescue Me (2009) and The Good Wife (2010–2016). His voice also graced animated films such as the Stuart Little series (1999–2005).
Fox's accolades include five Primetime Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and an honorary Oscar received in 2022. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2010, and his contributions to entertainment and advocacy continue to inspire many.
