Byron Dorgan
Byron Leslie Dorgan, born on May 14, 1942, is a distinguished American author, businessman, and former politician known for his impactful service as a United States Representative from 1981 to 1992 and as a United States Senator from 1992 to 2011, representing North Dakota as a member of the Democratic Party.
Throughout his 30-year congressional career, Dorgan played a significant role in the Senate Democratic leadership, serving 16 years in various influential positions including Assistant Democratic Floor Leader, Chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee, and Chairman of the Committee on Indian Affairs. He chose not to pursue re-election in 2010.
Since leaving the Senate, Dorgan has taken on the role of senior policy advisor at the Washington, D.C. law firm Arent Fox LLP. Additionally, he is a senior fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, where he co-chairs the Energy Project, addressing critical energy policy matters. Dorgan is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and holds positions on several boards, including the Board of Governors at Argonne National Laboratory and the National Advisory Board for the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation.
Dorgan is a New York Times best-selling author of five books. His works encompass two novels classified as eco-thrillers, two insightful explorations of economic and political themes, and his latest publication, “The Girl in the Photograph,” which tells the true story of a Native American girl living on a reservation.
