Dan Barnett

Daniel Barnett is an accomplished filmmaker and educator whose career spans over five decades, beginning in 1967. He studied analytic philosophy under K.J. Shah, a protégé of the renowned Ludwig Wittgenstein, which has influenced his artistic perspective. Barnett has extensive technical training as an editor and has held a variety of roles in the film industry, including director of photography, sound recordist, picture and sound editor, producer, and writer. More recently, he has taken on the role of Executive Producer for Educational Projects at bePictures, Inc. in San Rafael, California.

An esteemed educator, Barnett has taught film production and theory at several prestigious institutions, including SUNY Binghamton, Massachusetts College of Art, UMASS Boston, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2008, he published "Movement as Meaning in Experimental Film" through Editions Rodopi, Amsterdam & NY, contributing significantly to film literature.

Throughout his career, Barnett has produced hundreds of experimental films, earning him recognition such as a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, along with various regional awards. His works are preserved in notable collections across New Zealand, Australia, and France, showcasing his impact on the global art film community.
