Santiago Segura
Santiago Segura, a native of Madrid, embarked on his creative journey by crafting his initial short film at just fourteen years old. After pursuing his studies in the arts in Madrid, he made the pivotal decision to pursue a career in filmmaking. His debut short film, titled *Relatos de la medianoche* (1989), was produced on a modest budget of 7,000 pesetas, which is roughly equivalent to 60 dollars. Following this, Segura gained fame by participating in various Spanish television quiz programs, including *Locos por la tele* (1990) and *No te rías, que es peor* (1990). The earnings from these appearances enabled him to direct *Evilio* (1992), and shortly thereafter, he completed *Perturbado* (1993), which earned him a Goya Award for Best Short Film in 1994. His latest short film, a sequel titled *Evilio vuelve (El purificador)*, was released in 1994. Segura shares a close friendship with Spanish director Álex de la Iglesia, featuring in all of his cinematic projects. In 1998, he made his feature film debut with the wildly successful *Torrente, el brazo tonto de la ley* (1998), marking a significant milestone in his filmmaking career.
