Arthur Shawcross

Arthur John Shawcross, infamously recognized as the Genesee River Killer, was an American serial murderer whose criminal activities spanned from 1972 to 1989 in Rochester, New York. Shawcross's initial acts of violence occurred in his childhood home of Watertown, New York, where he committed the tragic murders of a young boy and a girl.

Following a stint in prison for unrelated crimes, Shawcross returned to society, where his violent tendencies resurfaced. Between 1988 and 1989, he was accused of taking the lives of several women, many of whom were involved in prostitution. Shawcross's gruesome methods and the brutality of his crimes garnered significant media attention and led to widespread fear in the Rochester community.

In 1990, he was apprehended and subsequently convicted of 14 counts of murder. His confessions revealed disturbing details about his motivations and methods, which captivated and horrified the public. Shawcross was sentenced to 250 years in prison, where he remained until his death in 2008.
