Richard Lindzen

Richard Siegmund Lindzen, born on February 8, 1940, is a prominent American atmospheric physicist renowned for his extensive research in areas such as middle atmospheric dynamics, atmospheric tides, and the photochemistry of ozone. Over the course of his career, he has authored more than 200 scientific papers, contributing significantly to the field of meteorology.

Lindzen held the prestigious position of Gordon McKay Professor of Dynamic Meteorology at Harvard University from 1972 until 1982 before transitioning to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1983, he was appointed the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology, a role he maintained until his retirement in 2013. His tenure at MIT was marked by substantial contributions to the understanding of atmospheric processes.
