Liisa Aibel
Liisa Aibel, born on September 21, 1972, in Viljandi, Estonia, is a distinguished actress known for her work in theatre, film, and television. Aibel grew up in Pärnu, where she graduated from Pärnu Secondary School No. 6 in 1990. Her passion for acting blossomed during her teenage years, leading her to study at the Pärnu School Theatre under Aare Laanemets.
In 1990, she pursued a formal education in performing arts at the Tallinn Conservatory (now the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), where she was mentored by the renowned theatre educator and director Ingo Normet. She graduated in 1994 alongside notable peers such as Mait Malmsten and Ain Mäeots.
Aibel's cinematic journey began with her notable dual roles in the 2009 drama "Päeva lõpus," directed by Maiju Ingman. She continued to build her filmography with minor roles, including in the 2010 film "Kutsar koputab kolm korda," directed by Elo Selirand, and a part in 2017's "Rohelised kassid," helmed by her former classmate, Andres Puustusmaa.
Her career reached new heights with her role as Lambasihver in the acclaimed 2019 drama "Tõde ja õigus," directed by Tanel Toom. The film, based on the first volume of A. H. Tammsaare's renowned pentalogy, was selected as Estonia's entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. Additionally, she showcased her versatility in the comedy-adventure film "Johannes Pääsukese tõeline elu," directed by Hardi Volmer, which depicts the journey of the early 20th-century photographer and filmmaker Johannes Pääsuke.
