Claire Adams, born on September 24, 1898, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was a prominent Canadian silent film actress and philanthropist. She was the daughter of Stanley Wells Adams, a Welsh accountant, and Lillian Adams (née Kennedy). Her education spanned both Canada and England, and during World War I, she served briefly as a nurse for the Red Cross.

In 1920, Adams embarked on her film career by signing a five-year contract with Hollywood producer Benjamin Bowles Hampton, who later became her husband. Relocating to California, she appeared in over forty silent films, showcasing her versatility across various genres, including melodramas, comedies, and westerns. Known for her "patrician beauty," Adams shared the screen with notable stars such as Adolphe Menjou, Tom Mix, Wallace Beery, and Lon Chaney. One of her standout performances came in 1923 when she starred alongside Rin Tin Tin in "Where the North Begins," a film credited with rescuing Warner Bros. from financial turmoil.

Adams gained widespread recognition for her role in "The Big Parade," one of the highest-grossing silent films ever directed by King Vidor, where she starred opposite John Gilbert. Her portrayal as Barbara in "The Penalty" further solidified her legacy.

After marrying Hampton in 1924, Adams became wealthy following his death in 1932. She later wed Scobie Mackinnon in 1938, and upon his passing in 1974, she inherited his substantial estate. Claire Adams passed away on September 25, 1978, in Windsor, Victoria, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the film industry.
