Kim Deal

1 title Acting Jun 10, 1961 Dayton, Ohio, USA

Kimberley Ann Deal, born on June 10, 1961, is a prominent American musician, celebrated for her dual roles as bassist and backing/lead vocalist for the influential alternative rock group, the Pixies, as well as for her work as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for The Breeders. Deal joined the Pixies in January 1986, initially performing under the pseudonym Mrs. John Murphy on their early albums, including *Come On Pilgrim* and *Surfer Rosa*. After the release of *Doolittle*, tensions within the band, particularly with frontman Black Francis, led to the group's breakup in early 1993.

In the interim, she established The Breeders alongside Tanya Donelly and Josephine Wiggs, achieving critical and commercial success with their landmark album *Last Splash* in 1993, which was certified platinum. The Breeders faced a hiatus in 1994 when Deal's twin sister, Kelley, sought treatment for substance abuse. During this period, Deal adopted the name Tammy Ampersand and formed The Amps, releasing the album *Pacer* in 1995.

After a lengthy break, Deal reunited with The Breeders for their third studio album, *Title TK*, in 2002, and rejoined the Pixies in 2004. The Breeders continued to evolve, releasing *Mountain Battles* in 2008, further solidifying Deal's legacy in the alternative rock scene.
