Dr. Michelle Roberts
Dr. Michelle D. Roberts (PhD, LPC, NCC) is a distinguished psychotherapist, journalist, and educator dedicated to empowering women to understand the impact of past trauma on their present relationships. Licensed to provide psychotherapy in both Missouri and Oregon, Dr. Roberts previously worked as a reporter for The Oregonian, where her investigative skills laid the groundwork for her current work.
She contributes her expertise to the Oxygen network’s *Mastermind of Murder*, sharing her insights into the complexities of dark personalities. Dr. Roberts earned her doctorate in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Missouri in St. Louis, where she also serves as an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses on psychopathology and diagnosis. In addition, she holds master’s degrees in education from UMSL and journalism from Northwestern University.
With over 25 years of experience in the study of relational trauma, Dr. Roberts has emerged as a leading voice in addressing the pervasive issue of narcissistic abuse. Her groundbreaking research highlights the significant link between romantic relationships with dark personalities and women’s formative experiences.
Beyond her academic and clinical pursuits, Dr. Roberts has played a vital role as the executive director of Bravely, a residential program supporting women overcoming trauma and addiction from sex trafficking. She was also a founding director of one of the nation’s pioneering non-profits focused on health literacy and has authored several mental health resources for the Institute for Healthcare Advancement in Irvine, CA.
