Sanaa Gamil
Sanaa Gamil, born into a Coptic Orthodox family in Minya Governorate, moved to Cairo to chase her dream of becoming an actress, adopting the stage name Sanaa Gamil. She quickly made a name for herself in the film industry, with one of her most memorable performances being Nefisah in the 1960 film "Bidaya wa Nihaya" (A Beginning and an End), directed by Salah Abouseif. This film, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Nobel Prize laureate Naguib Mahfouz, showcased her talent alongside the legendary Omar Sharif. Gamil's portrayal earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Moscow Film Festival in 1961, solidifying her status as a rising star.
In addition to her cinematic accomplishments, Sanaa Gamil is celebrated as one of Egypt's premier theater actresses. Her remarkable versatility also led her to perform on the French stage with La Comédie-Française, further broadening her artistic reach.
Gamil was married to prominent Egyptian journalist Louis Greiss, but the couple had no children. Her television credits include appearances in popular series like "Oyoun" (Eyes), alongside Fuad Al Mohandes, and she starred in various plays, including "The Visit" with Gamil Rateb.
