Jon Douglas Finlayson (March 23, 1938 – September 12, 2012) was a versatile Australian actor, writer, director, producer, and singer, celebrated for his compelling performances on both stage and screen. He gained recognition through notable films such as *Lonely Hearts* and *The Magic Show*.

Finlayson's artistic journey began at the tender age of eight, when he joined the Australian Boys Choir, touring extensively across the country as a boy soprano. His passion for the performing arts flourished during his school years, leading him to perform regularly on the children's radio program *The Fakermagangees* on 3DB. This early exposure paved the way for his involvement in various Australian radio dramas throughout his career.

After completing high school, Finlayson immersed himself in amateur theatre, subsequently landing roles in several prominent musicals at venues like the Comedy Theatre and Her Majesty's Theatre. His repertoire included performances in productions such as *The Fantasticks*, *Robert and Elizabeth*, *Bells Are Ringing*, *For Amusement Only*, *Lock Up Your Daughters*, and *Auntie Mame*.

On television, he became a familiar face, portraying Colonel Archibald Spencer in *Zoo Family* (1985) and James Gleeson in *Snowy River: The McGregor Saga* (1995–1996). In addition to his acting, he contributed sketches to *The Mavis Bramston Show* and was known for his warm hospitality and popular 'Sunday Soirees' within the Melbourne arts community.
