Jarmila Novotná
Jarmila Novotná was a renowned Czech soprano and accomplished actress, both on stage and in film. She began her illustrious operatic journey at the Prague Opera House, where she made her debut on June 28, 1925, portraying the character Marenka in Bedřich Smetana's beloved opera, "The Bartered Bride." Novotná's foray into the film industry came shortly thereafter with her role in the 1926 film "Vyznavaci slunce" (The Sun Disciples).
In 1929, she joined the prestigious Kroll Opera in Berlin, where she became a prominent figure in the performing arts. A significant highlight of her career occurred in 1933 when she took on the leading female role in Jaromir Weinberger's operetta "Frühlingsstürme," a notable work that marked the last musical drama produced during the Weimar Republic.
However, her flourishing career was interrupted by the rise of the Nazi regime, which compelled Novotná and her singing partner, Richard Tauber, to leave Germany.
