George Smith Lindsey (December 17, 1928 – May 6, 2012) was a prominent American character actor celebrated for his unforgettable portrayal of Goober Pyle on the iconic television series The Andy Griffith Show and its spin-off Mayberry R.F.D. He further endeared himself to audiences as a cast member of the long-running country variety show Hee-Haw.

Lindsey's career took off in 1964 when he was introduced as the lovable, slow-witted Goober Beasley on The Andy Griffith Show. The character was later renamed Goober Pyle to establish a familial connection with Jim Nabors' beloved Gomer Pyle, fellow Alabama native. Goober quickly became a fan favorite, known for his humorous "Goober Dance" and his hilariously poor impressions, particularly of Cary Grant.

In addition to his signature role, Lindsey showcased his versatility through various appearances in other television shows and films. He had a minor part in the ABC series The Tycoon and appeared as a sailor in the 1964 film Ensign Pulver, a sequel to Mister Roberts. Lindsey also guest-starred in an episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and made several appearances on the legendary series Gunsmoke. Notably, he played a scheming taxi driver in the "Bed of Roses" episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. Throughout his career, George Lindsey left an indelible mark on American television with his unique blend of humor and charm.
