Merle Talvik, born on June 6, 1954, in Tallinn, Estonia, is a distinguished actress known for her contributions to stage, film, and television since the mid-1970s. Growing up in a creative environment with her parents Herbert and Asta Talvik, she developed an interest in performance at a young age. In 1973, at just nineteen, she joined the ensemble cast of the Viru Varietee, a variety show at Tallinn's Viru Hotel. She later pursued formal training at the Tallinn State Conservatory (now the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), graduating in 1978.

Merle's career took off when she joined the Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu for a year, followed by over two decades at the Vanalinnastuudio in Tallinn, where she appeared in more than fifty theatrical productions. Her cinematic debut came in 1977 with a role in the Russian-language film *The Sun, the Sun Again*, directed by Svetlana Druzhinina. She then starred in her first Estonian film, *Reigi õpetaja*, in 1978.

Notable film appearances include her leading role as Katrina Leet in the drama *Karge meri* (1981), and as Krista Tammet in the 1983 film *Speed*. Talvik's diverse portfolio also features performances in *Savoy Ball* (1985) and *Vasha* (2009), as well as numerous television roles, such as Helgi in the popular drama *Õnne 13* (1994-1996) and Maria in the comedy-drama *Naabriplika* (2013-present). Her extensive body of work showcases her versatility and enduring impact on Estonian performing arts.
