Javier Botet
Javier Botet, born to Augustin Rodriguez and Andres Botet Servilia Maria del Carmen Lopez Nieto, spent his formative years in various Spanish cities. After his early childhood in his hometown, he moved to Cuenca for five years, followed by two years in Almería, and ultimately settled in Granada, where he pursued a degree in Fine Arts, graduating in 2001. In 2002, Botet relocated to Madrid, where he would reside until at least 2009.
Diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome at the age of five, Botet faced several health challenges, including pectus excavatum and later, aortic disease concerns, which led to surgeries in his twenties. His unique physical attributes—extremely long fingers and an impressive height of 2 meters—combined with his passion for the performing arts, paved the way for his entry into the film industry.
Botet made his cinematic debut in the horror film "Beneath Still Water" (2005), directed by Brian Yuzna. He gained significant recognition for his role in the acclaimed horror movie "Rec" (2007), directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza. In addition to his film work, he has made appearances in various television series, including "Planta 25," "Los hombres de Paco," and "Genesis."
In 2010, he took on the iconic role of Frankenstein in a stage adaptation directed by Gustavo Tambascio, which was performed at the Canal Theatre in Madrid. He is also known for portraying the eerie character "Mama" in the 2013 film produced by Guillermo del Toro. Botet's career continues to flourish, with an upcoming film featuring Neve Campbell and Dougray Scott titled "Division 19."
