Ralph Clanton (September 11, 1914 - December 29, 2002) was a notable American character actor recognized for his memorable performances on both stage and screen. Although he may not be a household name, Clanton left an indelible mark in the world of theatre and film, particularly with his portrayal of the Comte De Guiche in the acclaimed 1950 adaptation of "Cyrano de Bergerac." This film, notable for being the first English sound version of Edmond Rostand's timeless play, featured José Ferrer in the title role, earning him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Clanton’s connection to the character began earlier, as he was part of the 1946 Broadway revival cast and reprised his role in a 1953 production at the New York City Center.

In addition to his work in "Cyrano," Clanton made a significant impact on television, appearing in seven episodes of Alfred Hitchcock’s series and several productions of Hallmark Hall of Fame. He portrayed George Washington in the 1976 PBS adaptation of Sidney Kingsley’s "The Patriots," and also took on the character Jasper Delaney in the soap operas "Another World" and its spinoff, "Somerset." His film credits include a role in the sci-fi thriller "The 27th Day" and guest appearances on series like "Perry Mason." Clanton's final performance came in the 1983 comedy "Trading Places." Notably, a playbill from 1946 revealed his familial ties to the notorious Clanton gang associated with the historic Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
