Ronald Allen, born on December 16, 1930 (though some sources suggest 1934) in Reading, Berkshire, was a distinguished English character actor known for his extensive work in television and film. He received his education at Leighton Park School and honed his acting skills at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. Early in his career, Allen engaged in repertory theatre and performed at the Old Vic, eventually appearing in notable films like the classic Titanic drama, *A Night to Remember*.

Allen's television career flourished during the 1960s with roles in popular BBC soap operas such as *United!* and *Compact*. However, he is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of David Hunter in the long-running soap *Crossroads*, where he was a key character from 1969 to 1985, alongside co-stars like Meg Mortimer and Tish Hope. He also made notable appearances in the iconic sci-fi series *Doctor Who*, featuring in the episodes *The Dominators* and *The Ambassadors of Death*.

In addition to his television success, Allen showcased his comedic talent in *The Comic Strip Presents*, particularly in the parody *Five Go Mad in Dorset*, where he humorously subverted his conservative image. His television credits extended to series like *The Adventures of Robin Hood*, *Danger Man*, and *Bergerac*.

Allen shared a long-term relationship with actor Brian Hankins, and after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, he married his close friend and co-star Sue Lloyd. He passed away on June 18, 1991, at the age of 60.
