Hal Needham

Hal Brett Needham (March 6, 1931 – October 25, 2013) was a prominent American figure known for his achievements as a stuntman, film director, actor, and writer. He gained significant recognition for his collaborations with actor Burt Reynolds, starring in several iconic films that celebrated high-speed pursuits, including Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Hooper (1978), The Cannonball Run (1981), and Stroker Ace (1983).

Later in his career, Needham transitioned away from stunt performance to dedicate himself to a project focused on the World land speed record. His contributions to the film industry and stunt work were honored when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Taurus World Stunt Awards in 2001. Furthermore, in 2012, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented him with a Governors Award, acknowledging his significant impact on the field.
