Ruben Alves
Ruben Alves, born on January 9, 1980, is a prominent French-Portuguese actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter with roots in Portugal. Alves gained considerable acclaim for his work on "The Gilded Cage," a film he both wrote and directed, which resonated deeply with audiences.
Raised in Paris as the son of Portuguese immigrant workers, Alves embraced acting at the age of 20, starting his career with small roles in various French television series and short films. His directorial journey began with the 2002 short "À l'abri des regards indiscrets," but it was the 2013 feature film "La cage dorée" that marked his significant breakthrough. This immigrant comedy, inspired by his own family’s experiences, not only featured Alves in a cameo as 'Miguel' but also became the highest-grossing film in Portugal that year, attracting 755,000 viewers. The film also enjoyed international success, particularly in France and Germany, where it was released as "Portugal, mon amour."
In 2014, Alves expanded his repertoire by appearing in the biographical film "Yves Saint Laurent." Three years later, he co-directed the documentary "As Vozes do Fado" with Christophe Fonseca, which celebrated the legendary Fado singer Amália Rodrigues and accompanied by a tribute CD.
Currently, Alves resides in Bairro Alto, Lisbon, where he often vacationed during his time in Paris. His upcoming project, "Miss," showcases his continued passion for filmmaking in the comedy genre.
